1) What are the preferred, negotiated and oppositional readings for the RBK 50 Cent advert? Oppositional - : what the producer/creator intends – the ‘natural’ reading - The oppositional reading of this print advert could be consumers seeing it negatively they could interpret from the star power that has been used (50 Cent) is trouble with the police and potentially violence because of his previous issues hes been involved in. People could also come up with assumptions about 50 being "bad" due to his skin colour. Negotiated - : a middle ground between the producer’s intentions and the audience’s individual views. The audience may assume all he does is get into trouble and may assume hes bad due to his skin colour and not because hes done anything wrong. On the other he can be seen as inspiring as he had such a terrible upbringing but now hes a famous pop star and hes promoting a brand.
